The Nagarathar Way of Life
The Nagarathars — also known as Nattukkottai Chettiars — are a distinguished mercantile community of Tamil Nadu, famed for their Chettinad palaces, entrepreneurial spirit and deep devotion. From Kaveripoompattinam under the Chola kingdom, our forefathers travelled the world, yet carried their values of thrift, charity (dānam) and temple seva wherever they went.
In Chidambaram, home of the cosmic dancer Nataraja, our Sangam keeps this living tradition close — through temple festivals, Nanal literary gatherings, kolam competitions and the passing of our customs to the next generation.
